About Anton Roberts

Anton Roberts is an Assyrian-Australian TikTok creator who teaches the Assyrian language to a new generation of learners across the diaspora. Raised in Australia by an Assyrian mother and an Anglo-Australian father, he grew up hearing Assyrian from his grandparents but, like many young Assyrians, initially struggled to speak it himself. Determined to change that, he began teaching himself through family conversations, books, and online resources, then turned to TikTok to share simple, accessible lessons in Eastern Assyrian vocabulary, grammar, and everyday phrases. His short videos — covering topics like family terms, animals, food, and basic sentence structure — make the language feel approachable and relevant, especially for youth who are more comfortable in English but want to reclaim their heritage. Alongside his own studies and plans for a future in software engineering, Anton treats his growing online classroom as a form of cultural preservation, using social media to keep an endangered language alive. By speaking directly to fellow young Assyrians in the digital spaces they already inhabit, he helps them build confidence, pride, and a living connection to the language of their ancestors.
