Gishru
Educational nonprofit organizing humanitarian and cultural trips to the Assyrian homeland (Bet Nahrain), aiming to reconnect the diaspora with their heritage, history, and community in the region.
About Gishru
Gishru, meaning "Bridge" in Assyrian, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to organizing and conducting educational and humanitarian trips to Bet Nahrain (the Assyrian homeland). The organization's core mission is to strengthen the Assyrian identity by physically reconnecting diaspora members with their ancestral history, culture, and communities in the region. These "trips of a lifetime" involve experiencing archaeological wonders, participating in community engagement, and forging transformative, lifelong friendships between homeland and diaspora kin. By facilitating this direct interaction and newly acquired knowledge, Gishru aims to deepen participants' understanding of the community's issues, foster collaborative efforts, and increase the capacity of diaspora members to contribute to local and national advocacy and development initiatives upon their return.
