The Assyrian American National Federation (AANF) is a 501(c)(3) umbrella organization that has united Assyrian associations across the United States since 1933, making it the oldest active national Assyrian federation. Rooted in a history shaped by the massacres of Assyrians in Iraq and early organizing in communities like Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, AANF was created to provide coordinated support for Assyrians building new lives in America while staying connected to their heritage. Today, the federation focuses on promoting good citizenship, leadership, and civic engagement among Assyrian Americans, encouraging members—especially youth—to see themselves as both committed U.S. citizens and stewards of an ancient culture. Through its regional affiliates and its longstanding publication, the Assyrian Star, AANF highlights Assyrian contributions, shares community news, and helps preserve language, history, and faith traditions. The organization also plays a liaison role between the Assyrian community and U.S. institutions, working on advocacy initiatives and public awareness around Assyrian rights and security in the Middle East.
